Evaluation.
Research:-
For my research I looked a various things for example heroes and villains, animation techniques, genres, animated films and animation research. When I was researching heroes and villains I looked into binary opposites and then what you look for in a hero and also a villain. When I researched animation techniques I looked at Phenakitoscope, Zoetrope, Praxinoscope and Kinetoscope. When I researched genres I were looking at horror, comedy, western etc. When I researched into animated films I wrote a simple plot about what the film were about and then I talked about how they actually did the animation in the film. And lastly when I researched into animation techniques I looked at various 2-D animation for example cel animation and flip books.
Investigation:-
For my investigation work on this project, I did numerous of mind maps to get into the creative mind and then from doing this I would then be able to create interesting idea's that would work towards my final outcome which would be the animation of Finding Nemo. When I did my first mind map for this project I needed to decide which film I was going to re-create, I had numerous of films in my mind but at the end I chose Finding Nemo. I then had to think about how I would create the background, characters etc.
Techniques / Workshops:-
For my techniques / workshops we did numerous of things in different lessons with our tutors. For example with Raf we created a moving can and a moving stick man in Photoshop and imported in into After Effects. I will use the stick man to talk about what we had to do. Firstly we got told to open up Photoshop and create a stick man using the the shapes tool. I then saved this file and imported it into After Effects, I brought the stick man in as a new composition and then imported a sound file so that when the music plays the stick man will move with the music. To do this I had to place puppet pins onto my stick man, I played the puppet pins around the legs, arms and also the middle of his body. I found this task very interesting to do as it was my first time using After Effects.
We got set another task to do the same thing but make the body of a superhero move. I got my superhero character from Google images, I chose the Hulk but it didn't turn out as quite as good as I thought it would. I imported the superhero character into Photoshop and took away the background and then imported that image into After Effects. I then used puppet overlap to create my movements.
The next task we got given was to do a Typography piece, to do this piece we had to find a sound file, I got this sound file from Sounddogs. I then saved the sound file onto my desktop and kept listening to it so I knew for sure what it were saying. I then opened up After Effects
Idea Development:-
For my idea development we made numerous mind maps too see what we were going to do for our final animation. The idea's that I decided not to put through were because they would probably be too hard too do and also it would be too time consuming. If I had a chance too do this project again I would like to do an idea that I wasn't able to do.
Samples / Test Pieces:-
For my samples / test pieces I got a fish from google and imported it into after effects and placed puppet pins onto the fish too see if I could actually animate a fish then after I knew I could do this, I drew the characters myself and scanned them into then computer
Design Development:-
For my design development I had to think what would work will with the chosen scene I wanted to recreate myself. To get the stage of having my animation fully finished, I had a really big task of how to do it on After Effects.
Final Outcome:-
For my final outcome I used different materials and techniques. For my materials, I made my sea anemone out of purple tissue paper, firstly I was going to scan the sea anemone into the computer but it didn't work as good as what I thought it would. So instead I took a photograph of it and then uploaded it to the computer and edited it on Photoshop. For my Characters, I drew them and then scanned them into the computer, edited them on Photoshop by adding a newspaper look to the fish (I did this because I thought it would be different, instead of actually coping the characters out of the film.) and also I had another idea which was humorous which were when you actually get fish and chips you get them wrapped up in newspaper and thats where I got the idea from.
Strengths and Weaknesses:-
My strengths throughout this project would be my blog, for this project I have kept update with it also I have understood everything that we have done and instead of leaving it all too the last minute I have updated my blog whenever I could when I had the time.
My weaknesses of this project would probably be making my animation, I found making all the scenes pretty easy but when it came to actually animating the fish to come into the scene at the right time and too swim off at the right time was really hard to do. I also think that it was hard picking up on the tasks and getting used to how to work the software, for example for my animation I had to use After Effects and Photoshop. I asked for some help whilst learning these softwares because I got confused a lot of the time. But I know for the next projects now is too listen very well and try and get it for the first time.
I think from my first project I have grown to know all the software etc, I have also learnt a lot more now and also to write everything down that we do.
