My first photographs were taken in 1872 and 1873 in between photographic expeditions to Yosemite Valley; they were a failure because of the slowness of the emulsions.

Horses, wild animals, Human beings, dog and cattle.
6. Who inspired your photography?
The inspiration for my photography were horses, wild animals, dogs, human beings and cattle. I did an experiment with the horse to see if all four hooves came off the floor at the same time.
7. How did you do the experiment to show all four hooves were off the floor at the same time?
I did this by using 12 different cameras with slit shutters, which gave a drop variety giving an exposer of 1/25 of a second. Which were activated electrically when threads string across the test track were abruptly severed.
